Small Towns in Slovakia and Their Position in the Changing Socio-Spatial Situation of the Society

The objective of the project is to identify the changes in small towns in the context of the changing socio- spatial situation of the Slovak society, to analyze significant disponibilities of small towns with emphasis on their human potential and living conditions for achieving reasonable quality of life. We concentrate on the objective living conditions as well as their subjective assessment from the viewpoint of their citizens. Using the typological analysis we wish to define the relevant types of small towns and based on the quantitative and qualitative data to identify the development potential of the individual types as well as their developmental changes; to identify the sources of their development, strengths and weaknesses of their life as well as factors affecting quality of their human potential and living conditions, and influencing differentiation of their opportunities for development.
