Responsibility in discourse and the practice of economic actors - possibilities and limits in contemporary Slovakia
Programme: VEGA
Principal investigator: PhDr. Monika Čambáliková, CSc.
Duration: 1/2009 – 12/2011
Programme: VEGA no. 2/0156/09
Project summary: The aim of this project is to study the issues of social and environmental responsibility in both the discourse and practical actions of economic actors and institutions in Slovakia in the context of globalization and regionalization. Responsibility is conceptualised not as a characteristic of actors’ behaviour or attitudes but as a structural characteristic of an economic system. Therefore, this research is focused on the institutionalised forms and conditions that lead to its realisation and sustainability or, on the contrary, to its absence. There will be two case studies carried out within the project. The first is aimed at economic actors in the industrial sector, while the other will focus on farmers in ecological agriculture. In both cases, we will examine the strategies used to achieve a balance between the demand for economic sustainability on one hand and the requirement of social and/or environmental sustainability on the other.
