Project summary: The aim of this project is to identify specific character and the most important consequences of the suburbanization process in Slovakia with particular emphasis on its social-spatial and social cultural aspects. Identification of changes in the living environment of suburban areas/settlements and consequences the suburbanization process has been inducing on human potential of local communities, their social climate, style of living or identity of their residents will be done on the basis of quantitative and qualitative data. Consequences of this process on the developmental dispositions of settlements and the instruments municipalities have at their disposal to influence the process are going to be studied as well. The aim is to develop the typology of suburban settlements according to the forms of suburbanization process and the typology of communities’ strategic responses to the outcomes of the suburbanization process.
