Project summary: The aim of the project is to assess the quality of settlement network in Slovakia and through created typology analyse the role of individual types in the settlement structure of the country. Postindistrialisation and postmodernization processes (emerging also in Slovakia) beg the question : what will be the role (function) of individual settlement types in the future development in relation to regional and supraregional development icluding international contexts. To realise qualitative analysis of the settlement structure in Slovakia and to create multidimensional typology of the settlement structure. To formulate developmental perspectives of individual types in the national and supranational contexts
Apart from the broadening of knowledge in developmental trends characterizing settlement structure of Slovakia, the results of the research project should lead to the deepening of theoretical knowledge of forms and roles of developmental (innovative, or dynamizing) centres in regional development. In the same time they should serve as the knowledge starting-point for policies of local and regional development for institution in public administration.
