The first social data archive in Slovakia was implemented at the Institute for Sociology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences between 2002 and 2005. This archive was created within the VEGA project No. 2/2096/22 Slovak Social Data Archive led by Katarína Strapcová. Data and documentation on research carried out at the Institute for Sociology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences between 1990 and 2005 was archived. In total, 14 data sets mainly from international projects are documented and archived in printed form and electronically. A catalogue of the research archived in this archive can be found here.

The current Slovak Archive of Social Data (SASD) was created at the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Arts, Comenius University in Bratislava (FF UK) within the state science and research project "Archiving of social data and its use in international comparative research" commissioned by the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV). Currently, SASD is operated jointly by the Institute for Sociology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and the Department of Sociology of the Faculty of Arts of Comenius University on the basis of a mutual agreement.
